Bill Kazel, the original saviour of the Como Roundhouse, visited us along with his wife Sharon for the final Open House and Oktoberfest on September 26. For those Unfamiliar with Bill’s name and legacy - here is a brief summary displayed on his plaque.
Photo of Plaque now on display at Como Roundhouse
Bill contacted us early in September saying that he planned to come up to Como to have a “pretzel and a beer”. Bill and Sharon did just that and the entire community could not have been happier. To have Bill, Sharon, Kathy, and Chuck sitting side by side in a row of folding chairs inside the Roundhouse was a real treat!
Bill Kazel poses underneath our new wall plaque tribute to him and his work. Come to think of it – he built the wall that the plaque is on!!
Before the Oktoberfest festivities, Bill and Sharon took a ride in the cab of the plymouth. If you think back to when Bill did his amazing work in Como - there was no capability to do something like this. there was no track, no rolling stock, and no turntable! Bill did acquire the turntable during that time - and everything else we have added since has been built onto what he started. Bill was particularly thrilled to take a ride on the turntable in the Plymouth - as the turntable restoration was after his watch.
Sharon and Bill Kazel are ready for a ride in the Plymouth Cab!
ALL ABOARD!!!
And then…. Bill got his Pretzel and Beer.
Thank you Bill and Sharon! We look forward to your next visit!
