Como gets a Tank Car!!

What could that be out on 285?

October 24th – Tank Car Arrival

A bonus treat. We received a very generous donation of a narrow gauge tank car from Rosa and Lindsey Ashby.  Arrangements were made between Phil Johnson and Bob Schoppe. The car was picked up Friday at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Details on the tank car’s history will be provided later this fall. For now you can enjoy these photos!

Jeff Taylor, Sam Kunugi and Phil Johnson help load.  Note the weather – it was a little different up at the receiving end

Off to Como!!

The snow began to fly as the tank car arrived the morning of October 24th to its new home in Como – and its new life as a another example of historical rolling stock that came through Como.

If you have ever wondered how these historic cars get moved around Colorado with no narrow gauge tracks remaining between sites - read on. We even have some video. As shown in the photos, the car is on rails on the flatbed of the truck. The rear end is lined up with the track, the truck rear is lowered, and the car is carefully winched onto the track.

Tank car was expeditiously unloaded by Steve Disher and his son Chad.

Ready for lowering onto the Gunnison Main!

If you happen to be driving by the Roundhouse - you cannnot miss the tank car sitting on the Gunnison Main near the entrance. Watch here for a historical deep dive on this tank car’s history in the near future.
