Engine Crew Work Day - October 18th
Very productive work day as the engine crew struggled to install the dry pipe assembly into place within the locomotive barrel for final calculations for the front tube sheet fabrication at the D&S Shop.
Morning began with James Mackay bringing a load of firewood to the Roundhouse to feed the potbellied stoves.
Bob Peterson with large shears cutting 5/8” sheet metal for fabricating with the help of James Mackay, Kevin Cook, Jon Dierksheide & Siegfried Barthe.
Tina Bogani, Michael Sharp & Tim Clay installing a fabrication in the throttle dome.
Dan Silbaugh & Jon Diersheide in locomotive barrel with Mike Sharp operating an electric wench in smoke stack assembling the dry pipe.
Assembly of the dry pipe and throttle assembly within the locomotive is a huge accomplishment of the volunteer engine crew. The right dry pipe flange was broken when it came out of locomotive and was taken to Harbert Casting Repair in Denver, they do contract work for D&S, CRM and UP #4014, and they were able to rebuild flange.
The volunteer engine crew enjoying lunch around the hot stove, Tina Bogani, Jon Dierksheide, Siegfried Barthel, Bob Peterson, Jimmy Scoville, Dan Silbaugh, Michael Sharp & Kevin Cook.
We hosted visitors all day as the Roundhouse was buttoned up for winter.
