Open House - September 20th

It was a grand workday and open house with our two engines stealing the show.  The Plymouth was active, including runs beyond the hotel on the Breckenridge line, and Kate #4 was being prepped for the next D&S visit in early October.

Stall #6 was spiffed up as the Plymouth’s new home including a new workbench and storage shed.  The Stall #6 door needed to be raised for smooth operation to clear newly installed larger rail.  It took quite a crew in the end, but success was achieved without damage to the historic fabric of the door.

Norm Acker, Greg Parent & Charlie Parent tighten up cross bracket to raise door center. Matthew Knoedler, Alex Hois & Norm Acker removing modern shim no longer needed at door top.

Work has been continuing on Kate #4 in preparation for the next D&S visit and centered on the throttle valve mounting. Bob Petersen, Dan Silbaugh & Tim Clay persuade the mounting bracket.

Additional Kate #4 photos: 1 - mounted throttle valve, 2 - this view shows the throttle valve steam fitting for the dry pipe sticking out the bottom of the steam dome hole.  The rear tube sheet won’t need to wait much longer for the front tube sheet and tubes!

Several other tasks were completed in and around the Stall #6 action. Note the cleanliness of the stall (thank you Siegfried Barthel) and the work area on the left set up by Paul Greguoli & Tom Lawson.

Later in the day the Plymouth got out on the track! 1 - Sam Kunugi & Tom Lawson head north off the turntable for an afternoon run. 2 - On the Gunnison line. 3 - Breckinridge or Bust!!

Not picture but also present on Saturday 9/20: special thanks to Lauren Revis & Tina Bogani for staffing the merch table and greeting visitors as they enter, Scott Hebert for Speeder rides and Jon Dierksheide for Handcar rides, Bob Schoppe & Steve Schweighofer for staffing the Depot, David Winner, Chris Tome & Jimmy Scoville for their constant presence and work, and to Mike Bottlemy, Mike Sharp, and Catherine Woodham for hosting!

Bonus picture to end the day in Como!
