Work Week Chronicles & June Open House

Work Week Chronicles: June 14 – 16, 2025

Track 8 to the maintenance pit was the focus of the Track Crew. Chris Tome levels the bed for Track 8 up to the maintenance pit while Alex Hois and Siegfried Barthel eye the line.

Saturday Crew (Left) Bob Peterson, Alex Hois, Dale Shallenberger, Andy Dingsor & Jacoby Van Winkle.  Sunday Crew (Rt.) Andy Dingsor, Alex Hois, & Bob Schoppe. Not Pictured: Paul Greguoli & Rob Van Winkle finished the maintenance shed decking.

Monday Crew: Kevin Jolly, Thomas Fike, Tony Gambone, Bob Peterson, Patrick Hardin & David Sinew.

Alongside the track work Jonah Gambone found this connector with a metal detector.  It likely coupled an engine and tender, considering its smaller size it is possible that it is from the first days of Como.

A new trench was ran to the Water Tower for additional electric connections for the RR Day Food vendor and a water tower pump.  Thanks to David Winner for design and supplies! After Chris Tome trenched exposed areas with the backhoe, Bob Schoppe & Siegfried Barthel did the detailed work the old fashioned way!  Although lacking a photo, Tony Gambone, Bob Peterson & Patrick Hardin buried the trench by hand after David Winner laid the wire.

Although not official open house dates, the hosting of visitors went on the entire week. Chip Sherman & Michael Bottlemy hosting drop-ins.

The Stall 1 Machine Shop Expansion was in full swing all week.  Job 1 was clearing the east end of the office and staring wall demo.  Appreciate Patrick Hardin for meticulously moving the shelving holding the majority of our marketing and many other supplies.

Work Week Chronicles: June 17 – 20, 2025

Track Crew focused these days on mop up work and inspection/fixes to existing rail.  Of note – the small hand cart run has been re-leveled to eliminate the roller coaster effect.

Steve Thompson, Paul Blanchard, Clarke Stremke, Steve Burt, James Mackay, Tina Bogani & Bob Schoppe adding a tie near water tower.

After a weather warning on Tuesday, the track crew came closer to the roundhouse and shaved the rubbing tie. Left: Patrick Hardin, Gary Merrifield, Tony Gambone & Andy Dingsor in the midst of the shave (yes, we used that many tools). Right: Action shot, Gary & Siegfried.

Friday Crew: Bob Schoppe, Steve Thompson, Alex Hois & Chris Tome adding “ballast” from our “cinder bank”.

Stall 6 work prep work continued, Steve Burt brought his crane truck and we were able to move necessary timbers to the general area, as well as dig out the front to prepare for the new rail. Alex Hois, Steve Burt & Clarke Stremke unloading a 16’ timber.
